School Priorities 2011 – 2013
LITERACY:

• To complete the development and implementation of a Whole School Literacy Plan, resulting
in common, consistent, contemporary best practices across classrooms from K to year 7.
• Cater for students’ individual literacy needs within classrooms, including those who require
extension.
NUMERACY:

• Continue the focus on First Steps Numeracy, with a shift to supporting teachers as well as
students.
• Establish a focus on Mental Maths strategies
• Cater for students’ individual differences in mathematics within classrooms, including those
who require extension.
ENVIRONMENTAL and SUSTAINABLE EDUCATION

• Consolidate current Environmental Education programs and initiatives in the school: Waste
Wise, Wetlands, Solar Energy project.
• Introduce and apply the concept and principle of “Sustainability” to school culture and
practice.
PEDAGOGY and INSTRUCTION

Undertake a process with staff input to re-evaluate the elements and content of the GPS
School-Wide Pedagogy (SWP) and define a new statement and guidelines to describe a
consistent approach to teaching learning and assessment across the school (eg “the Geographe
Way”).
• Implement Instructional Intelligence with a focus on enhancement of teaching skills through
I.I. training and reflection, working with colleagues and advocates.
